KATHMANDU: Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Prasad Poudel has said that attack on press under any pretext was not acceptable.

Talking to a team of journalists led by Chairman of Reporters Club Chairman Rishi Dhamala this afternoon, Minister Poudel said the government was against such activities as attack on media was not only obstruction on press freedom rather it is also an act to trample people’s rights.

The journalists had gone to meet the minister to draw his attention regarding the obstruction of distribution of Rajdhani Daily by CPN-Maoist affiliated All Nepal Communications and Publication Association.

Minister Poudel also assured security of journalists and media houses and urged them to work in a fearless manner.

In a query about contempt of court against the Kantipur Daily, Minister Poudel said the government would not challenge the rights of media house. He however said that making reactions on the issue of Kantipur Publications is not worthy as the case is under consideration in the court.
