This Dashain, Tihar unlikely to face sugar shortage
KATHMANDU: A cabinet meeting held today has decided to allow the government bodies to import sugar up to 30,000 metric tonnes at one per cent customs duty as an attempt to supply sugar in abundance during the festivities.
The meeting has nominated Dr Bhogendra Sharma in the post of the United Nations Committee against Torture on behalf of Nepal.
Besides, the meeting has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to mobilize different diplomatic missions for the candidacy of Sharma.
As per the decision of the meeting, Arjun Babu Dhakal shall be appointed the General Manager of Nepal Water Supply Corporation for a tenure of four years.
Earlier, the Public Corporations Direction Board recommended Dhakal to the post, government Spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Prasad Poudel said after the meeting.
Likewise, the meeting has appointed senior scientist officer with the National Forensic Laboratory Jeevan Prasad Rijal to the post of Lab’s Executive Director.
