KATHMANDU: The Federal Democratic Republic Alliance (FDRA) led by the UCPN-Maoist has demanded that the quota under the proportion system for the Constituent Assembly election be increased by amending the electoral law.

A meeting of the FDRA held at UCPN-Maoist central office, Koteshwor, on Sunday demanded the PR seats be increased, reasoning it would make the CA more inclusive.

Reiterating its earlier stand that 42 percent seats for direct election and 58 for proportional, the FDRA discussed about the need of amending the electoral act accordingly, said FDRA Spokesperson Prem Bahadur Singh.

He however said that it would not be difficult to amend the act as the political agreement has already been made on it. As per the agreement, equal percentage has already been allocated for both proportional and the direct election.

Similarly, the meeting called on all political parties to make the CA election a success.

According to the Spokesperson, the FDRA would make continue efforts for a consensus on the demands raised by the agitating CPN-Maoist.

Welcoming government decisions to categorize the Brahmin, Chhetri, Dashnami, Sanyashi and Thakuri ethnic people as Khas Arya people, the FDRA directed the respective party cadres to devote to provide relief to the people hit by recent floods and landslides and the restoration of the affected places.
