KATHMANDU: UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota has said Dr Baburam Bhattarai will work in the capacity of party Vice-chairman after the party’s extended meeting scheduled for July 19.

Speaking at an interaction program in Reporters club  today, Sapkota said, “Neither Baburamji will establish another party nor will he resign from the UCPN (Maoist). He will remain active as the party Vice-chairman after the extended meeting.”

Club’s Chairman Rishi Dhamala chaired the program.

Sapkota also said that a single person will not take the leadership in a communist party for always and he sacrificed his post to establish the same.

“Though Bhattarai’s announcement to sacrifice the post could further unite the party, this is not the right time for doing so,” the UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson said.

Sapkota, however, said that leadership handover will continue in the party after the series of new generation was formed.
The extended meeting would discuss the Chairman’s organizational report, regulation on organization, portfolio division and Bhattarai’s resignation letter.

The party will prepare a strategy on election from the extended meeting.

The UCPN (Maoist) spokesperson said that the parties are ready to hold talks in all issues except dissolution of the Regmi-led government and scrap of the 11-point agreement and 25-point order.

On the occasion, CPN (UML) leader Raghu Bir Mahaseth said that the state should conduct the CA election on November 19 even by using force.

“In India the rebels attempt to the foil the election in Asam and other parts. In Nepal also the Maoists obstructed the election during the insurgency. But, the genuine demands of the dissenting parties should be fulfilled,” the UML leader said.

Mahaseth also accused the Madhes-based parties of not being serious to the country and people.

“Until yesterday they had no money to ride a tempo. But, today they ride Mercedes.”
