Foreign Secretary Bhattarai appointed permanent representative to UN



KATHMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has, in accordance with Article 150 of the Interim Constitution of Nepal, 2007 and on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, appointed Foreign Secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

A decision to appoint Bhattarai to the post, that remained vacant for the past one year, was taken by an emergency cabinet meeting held on Monday night.

A resident of Dawa in Siddheswar VDC-3, Bhojpur, Bhattarai has already served as the deputy permanent representative at Nepal’s mission for the United Nations in New York. Prior to being appointed as the Foreign Secretary, Bhattarai was the Nepali Ambassador to Sri Lanka.

Bhattarai joined civil service in 2043 B.S. as a section officer and entered the Foreign Service as a Joint Secretary through open competition in 2054 BS.
