Court gives a farewell verdict to Keshav Sthapit

KATHMANDU: Commissioner of Kathmandu Valley Development Authority Keshab Sthapit has been relieved from his post.

He was relieved from the post with the Supreme Court (SC) decision approving the government decision to terminate him from the post.

A division bench comprising justices Prakash Wasti and Tarkaraj Bhatta on Sunday issued a verdict to that end.

The meeting of Council of Ministers on January 17, 2012 had decided to replace Mr Sthapit with Engineer Yogeshwor Krishna Parajuli. After the four days of the government decision, Mr Sthapit moved the SC, challenging the government move.

In his petition, Mr Sthapit had claimed that he was not given any opportunity to furnish a clarification before he was removed from the post.

The Sunday’s court verdict states that provisions of Civil Service Act and Authority Act in removing an office-bearer were different.

In an initial hearing on Sthapit’s petition, the apex court had issued an interim order in the name of government directing the latter to stay its decision until the next decision.
