Election Commission extends deadline for nomination

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has extended the deadline for filing candidate nominations for the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) elections by a week.

The EC has extended the deadline to register candidates under the first-past-the-post candidate till October 3 and the deadline to file nominations under the proportional electoral systems has been extended till September 30.

While stating that the extension will not affect other of its plan schedules, the EC said that it stands firm with its commitment to hold CA elections on November 19.

Government and High Level Political Committee, in separate meetings with the EC officials had pressed for the extension of deadline referring to the convenience of majority of parties that are taking part in the CA elections.
