Interim Constitution Drafting Committee member Dahal rules out Prez reelection
Kathmandu: Former president of the NBA Harihar Dahal, also a member of the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee, said that other interpretation on tenure of the President and Vice President was unwanted prior to promulgation of new constitution.
Speaking at a face-to-face interaction programme organised by Reporters Club Nepal in capital today, Dahal said that the incumbent President and Vice-president cannot be changed until the new constitution is drafted.
Likewise, speaking in the programme held under the presidency of Club’s president Rishi Dhamala, president of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) Hari Krishna Karki said that the President and Vice President should be changed as per the new mandate.
He said that the new CA meeting has the right whether to change or continue the tenure of the President and Vice President.
However, former vice-president of the NBA Sher Bahadur KC said that the CA could not go beyond the constitutional provision regarding the election to the new President and Vice President.
Similarly, former general secretary of the NBA Raman Kumar Shrestha said that election to the head of the state should be conducted after the election to the head of the government as the President holds some executive rights.
Shrestha was of the view that the President should resign on moral ground based after the fresh mandate.
Likewise, senior advocate Dr Bhimarjun Acharya said that article 36 (C) of the Interim Constitution of Nepal 2063 BS should be amended to take new decision regarding the tenure of the President and Vice President.
