Nepal Army slams vote rigging involvement allegation

Kathmandu: Nepal Army (NA) has said that its attention has been towards the baseless and misleading publicity made with the intention to hurt the apolitical and professional character of the national army and drag it into unnecessary controversy in connection with its role in the recent election to the Constituent Assembly (CA).
The propaganda to defame the NA’s image alleging its involvement in election rigging at a time when the national army has successfully performed the responsibility given by the government has drawn serious attention of the NA, says a press release issued here Thursday by NA Directorate of Public Relations.
It is crystal clear that the Army has discharged its responsibility as per the government’s directive to serve its goal to hold the CA election in a free, fair and peaceful manner, as the NA’s role in the election was appreciated by all sides including Government of Nepal, Election Commission, diplomatic missions, national and international independent observers, civil society and media, reads the statement.
The national army is confident and dignified towards the public acknowledgement of its impartial role during the election and is ever committed to safeguard the country and people, adds the release.
