NC seeks extension of PR nomination submission deadline
Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to request the Election Commission (EC) to extend the deadline of submitting the names of candidates under the Proportional Representation system until December 15. According to NC secretary Pradeep Parajuli, the meeting of the Parliamentary Board of the party has made such decision to this effect.
Parajuli informed that NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel, general secretary Krishna Prahad Sitaula and CWC member Minendra Rijal are going to the EC office today to formally request the EC for the deadline extension.
EC has set the deadline set for political parties who have managed to secure the seats under the PR system to submit the names of nominees by December 10. However, UCPN (Maoist) led dissenting alliance have said that they would not submit the names of the candidates unless the demand to form a high level probe commission formed to look into the vote rigging allegation.
Parajuli said that the NC was making the request to the EC as the dialogues with the UCPN (Maoist) were underway to rope in the dissenting party into the process.
