Sitaula pulls up another card for selecting consensual PP leader

Krishna Prasad Sitaula

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary K P Sitaula is reportedly presenting an alternative proposal for making party President Sushil Koirala the Parliamentary Party leader and consecutively Prime Minister of the proposed consensus government.

Sitaula is reported to be proposing to make party senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba Acting President of the party as a bargain for Deuba’s support to Koirala’s candidacy.

As per the proposal both Deuba and Koirala will be sharing partial authority of Party’s Presidency.

Koirala will be heading the government for the next one year and will step down from the government after the new constitution is drafted and promulgated within that period.

Though Deuba is positive towards this proposal, sources said that he has asked the General Secretary to ink the agreement.

Discussions will be held between Deuba and Sitaula today to finalize the issue.

However, if efforts to select the PP leader in consensus, the party is planning to opt for ballot box for electing the leader.
