JC in controversy : PHSC demands another clarification
Kathamandu, May 18.The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee has objected to the Judicial Council’s response towards the House panel’s summons over the controversial recommendation for the appointment of eight judges at the Supreme Court.
It has said that a draft of Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee’s missive to the Judicial Council will be presented in the meeting which was scheduled for tomorrow morning at 8 am. By concluding the meeting that the JC’s response that it was not accountable to the Parliament and the refusal to discuss the recommendation disrespected the parliamentary system, the PHSC decided to formally condemn the JC’s move.
The meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee was held under the chairmanship of Nepali Congress Leader & lawmaker Mr. Kul Bahadur Gurung which has urged the PHSC to start its formal hearing on individual nominees, UCPN-Maoist’s lawmaker and the member of PHSC Mr. Agni Sapkota and UML’s duo Bhim Rawal and Rajendra PandeyThey both have stressed theirs serious exception to it.
There has been still continuation the debate over the hot issues of appointing the judges in the Supreme Court , Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee members representing Nepali Congress, however, aired their views in favour of the JC’s recommendation today also. Mr. Balkrishna Khand,a lawmaker of Nepali Congress, who has stressed that the decision of the Supreme Court has run-out the orders for not participate in the PHSC’s meeting to the JC’s members. He recommends for the table of crucial dialogue to call the applicants and recommended judges to resolve the problems.
In the meeting, member of the PHSC and lawmaker Mr. Agni Prasad Sapkota who has louded that the challenges given by the JC must be dissolved soon. He said, ” Earlier We all have agreed to call the JC’s members for the tabling but this is what we have wrong trend of being silence over the meeting.” He silently blames to the Nepali Congress members.
Likewise, UML’s lawmaker Mr. Rabindra Adhikari has urged to be unite for the removal of JC’s challenges over the judges appointment. He stressed that not for dwelling in the such debate. He further added to choose the mid-way to resolve the current problems.
Similarly, Chairman of the Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal Mr. Chitra Bahadur KC has also demanded to to ignore the request of JC. KC further added that not possible to accept blindly.
The controversy was stirred after JC’s recommendation for eight judges at the SC was criticised for both the members in and outside the judiciary. Likewise the concerns have been raised against the characters, honesty and judiciary reputation of the judges that have been recommended as the permanent justices of the apex court.
