CIAA filed corruption case against CAN office bearers
Kathmandu, June 08. The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority has filed a corruption case against 18 officials of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) including it’s Chairman Tanka Aangbuhang Limbu,
The anti-graft body had already started its investigation over the alleged irregularities in CAN on April. Before this the disgruntled national cricket team had also decided to boycott the one-day national cricket tournament demanding to find the current cricket authorities. Similarly, the players had also complained that they were deprived from getting the allowances.
It has said that the CIAA officials booked today, embezzled funds for the construction of an international cricket stadium in Mulpani. Likewise the officials have also been charged of embezzling funds allocated for the purchase of sports goods, and sending unrelated persons on foreign trips with the national cricket team under the CAN’s own expenses.
Among the officials brought under scanner are Vice Chairpersons Chatur Bahadur Chand, Sunilman Amatya and Binod Kumar Mainali, General Secretary Ashoknath Pyakurel, Treaurer Raj Babu Shrestha, members Kiran Shumsher Rana, Thakur Pratap Thapa, Thakur Prasad Pahadi and Purna Bahadur Lama, and Engineer Arun Upadhyay, of the National Sports Council (NSC).
Likewise, proprieter of the Gaura Constructions Pvt. Ltd. Surya Adhikari, Ram Sharan Deuja of R Komal Constructions, Krishna Prasad Pandey of Nawa Nirman Company, Pawan Pathak of Crown Nepal Constructions and Development Pvt. Ltd., Rajkumar Khadka of Khadka Construction Pvt. Ltd, Director of Disign Shell Architects Pvt. Ltd. Umesh Man Shrestha and Engineer Chhabilal Adhikari of Sifan Engineering Consultancy, were also booked in the CIAA crackdown.
According to CIAA, the total sum embezzled amounts over Rs 10.43 million.The case was lodged at the Special Court today under the anti Corruption Act 2017.
