Suu Kyi arrives today
Kathmandu, June 13. Myanmar democracy icon and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has arrived here today on a four-day official visit.
During her visit, It has said that she will address the Constituent Assembly and deliver a lecture on the relevance of social democracy.
According to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala’s Foreign Relations adviser Dinesh Bhattarai, Suu Kyi will be engaged in various events including an address in Parliament, and participation in an international conference on “future of democratic socialism” organised by the BP Chintan Pratisthan. She will receive a citizen honour at the Nepal Army Officers’ Club on Sunday.

BP Koirala Memorial Trust, which PM Koirala himself chairs, and BP Thought Academy, are jointly organising a talks programme, Future of Social Democracy, at Hotel Hyatt Regency on Saturday, where Suu Kyi will deliver a keynote speech. Chairman of the International Socialist Federation Luis Ayala will also address the programme.
Late prime minister BP Koirala had good personal, as well as professional, rapport with Suu Kyi’s father Aung San. Both the leaders were proponents of socialist international movement.
Suu Kyi will also address a special session of the Constituent Assembly on Saturday and receive public felicitation on Sunday.
Suu Kyi is also set to visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, and BP Koirala Memorial Museum in Sundarijal. She will pay courtesy calls on President Ram Baran Yadav and PM Koirala, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Leaders of political parties are also set to meet her before she returns on Monday.
