Ruling party’s leader discontent over lawmakers nomination,

Kathmandu, August 31. Central leaders of the ruling parties Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML have expressed their dissatisfaction over the nomination of 17 lawmakers by the Cabinet.

Speaking at the interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Sunday, the leaders charged that their party chiefs and top leaders cherry-picked the new lawmakers without holding any official meeting in their respective parties.

Nepali Congress Leader Arjun Narsingh KC has charged that the recommendation was not made by any institutional decision of the party.

Maintaining that though he did not have any objection over the recommended names, KC said it is the matter of process that is in question, speaking at the program presided by the Reporters’ Club Nepal’s president Rishi Dhamala.

UML Vice-Chairman Bhim Rawal has also said that he did not know anything about the party’s nomination of lawmakers in the Constitution Assembly.

Rawal has expressed his dissident over the decision to nominate of the lawmakers. He sadi, there was no discussion in the party regarding the lawmakers’ nomination. He passed the buck to the party chairman. “Perhaps our Chairman and the Prime Minister know about it.”

At the same occasion, both leaders said that High Level Political Committee (HLPC) cannot be formed as demanded by the opposition party UCPN-Maoist. They reasoned that the proposed HLPC may override the CA’s functioning. They also criticised the House obstruction by the Maoists, and urged the main opposition party to end it immediately.

Maoist leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, on the other hand, maintained that HLPC is a bottom-line for his party to resume the House. He argued that HLPC was agreed in the four-point pact signed in December last year, and it was a must.

Unless such a committee is formed, Rayamajhi said, the party would continue the obstruction and would not recommend names for nomination by the Cabinet to give full shape to the CA.

CPN-Maoist Secretary Dev Gurung has demanded to hold the all party round table to resolve the current political deadlock. Gurung stressed that the CA wouldn’t deliver pro people constitution.
