Fulpati being observed
Kathmandu, October 01 . The seventh day of Dashain festival, Fulpati , is being observed on Wednesday across the country with cultural and religious functions.
Following the tradition, the Fulpati , the procession bearing the jamara and other items necessary for the tika, was brought all the way from Gorkha, 169 km from Kathmandu, to Dhading district from where six Brahmins carried it to Jamal.
From Jamal, the Fulpati filled with holy water, banana stalks, jamara and sugarcane tied with red cloth to be offered to Goddess Durga , was carried by Bhramans on a decorated palanquin under a gold tipped and embroidered umbrella to the Dashain Ghar in Hanuman Dhoka in the day.
The Gurujyuko Platoon, the Nepal army, Nepal police, and high-ranking officials of Armed Police and civil service, band music, and panchebaja bands also joined the Fulpati parade.
While taking the Fulpati inside, a military parade was organised at Hanumandhoka with the involvement of the Gurujyuko Platooon, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and high-ranking officials of the Armed Police Force.
The Asha Gurja team, band music, and panchebaja bands also played music. With this, the Dashain feasting started.
Meanwhile, Hindu families also collected Fulpati —an assortment of flowers, leaves and fruits of different plants considered auspicious—and took them inside their home.
Though Dashain begins with Ghatasthapana, the festival gets special flavour from the day of Fulpati .
All government as well as private offices are closed from the seventh day of Navaratri, encouraging people to go back to their respective ancestral homes and take blessings from Durga Bhawani as well as their elders.
