UCPN-M leader Sapkota warns of leaving CA if voting for statute



Kathmandu, Dec 24.  A central leader of UCPN-Maoist has warned of walking out of the Constituent Assembly (CA) if ruling parties try to promulgate the constitution on the basis of majority voting.

Speaking at an interaction program organised by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Wednesday, UCPN-Maoist leader Agni Prasad Sapkota has warned his party will not passively observe if ruling parties including Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML endorse the statue by two-third majority.

Urging leaders of ruling parties to review their decisions and plans, he said the nation will take a “different” course if they fail to do so, speaking the program presided by the Reporters’ Club’s President Rishi Dhamala.

Accusing NC and UML of restricting people’s rights, Sapkota said the ruling coalition partners are trying to return the nation toward an old system. “We are not protesting rule and process,” Sapkota said, “But, no one is above people’s complete liberation.”

Leader added that his party will not withdraw announced protests unless ruling parties change their plan to endorse the statute.

Similarly Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC has urged to 30 party Morcha to withdraw the protests program. KC stressed that his party is stand on for forging the consensus on the disputed issues of the Constitution.

Likewuse,  UML leader Shankar Pokhrel, however, urged the opposition party to withdraw protests and come to the talks to resolve the crisis.

Both leaders, they were of the opinion that protests will further conflicts and confrontations in the nation.
