Constitution on Jan-22 is Impossible: Rawal

Kathmandu, Dec.26. Vice-Chairman of the CPN-UML Mr. Bhim Rawal has said constitution by January 22 is not possible.

Speaking at the interaction Program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Thursday, Vice-Chairman Bhim Rawal said promulgation of the new statute is impossible by the January 22 deadline self-imposed by the Constituent Assembly (CA).

Rawal said even if the CA begins voting process to endorse the constitution, it can not meet the January 22 deadline now. But, the constitution writing body does not have any alternative than beginning the majority process, Rawal added in the program presided by the Club’s President Rishi Dhamala.

Rawal has asked opposition parties not to obstruct the constitution drafting process. If they find that statute does not include their agendas, they can amend it with two-third majority, he said.

He added that UML will talk with its coalition partner NC about whether to change the government after January 22.  He, however, maintained that turning the incumbent government into a national consensual one will be better than forming a new government.

Similarly, Nepali Congress’s leader Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat said constitution writing process has been lingered as major parties failed to find consensus, not on contents of the constitution, but on power sharing issues. Dr. Mahat blamed that the opposition parties launched protest programmes also to boost their bargaining power in political transactions.

Likewise Dr. Mahat has urged to build the all party national consensus government under the leadership of PM Koirala,  if the leaders of major parties would seek their status on the new constitution.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana blamed the top leaders of major parties for existing political deadlock. Chairman Rana claimed that the current political deadlock is the cause of senior political leaders . He blamed that the top political leaders are seeking their political space .

Similarly, Chairman Rana informed his party is going to hold the grand discussions on the establishment of Republican Hindu State in the upcoming Central Meeting.
