Appointment for constitutional bodies derail cause political bargaining

KATHMANDU, FEB, 24:  A meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC) today also failed to recommend the names for appointment to the vacant seats in the constitutional bodies. Post of the chairman and other members at the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the post of the members of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of the Authority (CIAA) are lying vacant. It is learnt that the council members are yet to forge consensus on the names for recommending to PSC chairman and members.

Following the meeting, council member and Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang said that they held serious discussions on the issues but recommendation could not be made as they failed to forge unanimous consensus on the topic.

Similarly, council member and opposition leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that he proposed to nominate the names to the vacant posts of constitutional bodies in a package and the next meeting to be held on February 26 would make decisions on it.

He added that he suggested continuing the former office bearers at the PSC as was done in the post of the chief commissioner at the Election Commission.

As per the provision of the Interim Constitution- 2063 BS, chair of the council is Prime Minister and other members are Chief Justice, Speaker, opposition party leader and three ministers recommended by the Prime Ministers. RSS
