Upper Tamakoshi workers end strike

DOLAKHA, MAR 26: The construction work at 456-MW Tamakoshi Hydropower Project in Dolakha district resumed on Wednesday after the agitating workers called off their strike following an agreement with the project authority.

In a meeting held in Kathmandu-based office of the project, the concerned officials and the representatives of the agitating workers reached an agreement to form a taskforce within 7 days to address the demands of Nepal Electricity, Painter, Plumber and Construction Workers Union, said the spokesperson of the project, Ganesh Neupane.

The Chinese workers employed at the project resumed their work as soon as they learnt about the cancellation of work. Also, Nepali workers hired by the contracting company, Sino Hydro Company, have also resumed work in the project that operated round the clock.

The demands of the workers will be addressed based on the report prepared by the taskforce, said Neupane

The agitating workers brought construction work to a standstill since March 13 to press their demand for a stake in the plant.
