14 injured as cops‚ protestors clash in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT, Apr 3: Locals clashed with security personnel at Gaur, Rautahat, during a protest over the recent decision to extend the unit offices of Land Revenue and Survey Department from Gaur to Chandranigahapur on Friday.

Few protestors sustained injuries after police resorted to baton charge and lobbed few tear gas shells to scatter the agitating mob. Tension surrounded the Gaur due to the protest led by Rautahat chapter of Federation of Nepali Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).

The agitators demanded the government scrap the decision to extend the offices although the Ministry of Land Reform and Management has already informed that the decision has been postponed.

“We want the decision to be annulled,” said FNCCI President Kantamani Jaiswal, “Mere postponement of decision is not enough.”

The unrest in Gaur has been ongoing for nearly three weeks now. Normal life in the district headquarters, Gaur, has been affected due to the tension. Market place and vehicular movement were affected.

Protestors have burned the effigies of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal during the demonstration.
