TSC to hire over 3,000 teachers

KATHMANDU, Apr 4: The Teacgers Service Commission (TSC) is preparing to announce over 3,000 vacancies for teaching post in public schools.

According to the Department of Education (DoE), 3,249 teaching posts are vacant in state-run lower secondary and secondary schools across the country. To fill these vacancies, TSC is planning to make vacancy announcement soon.

The intake will be called for only those seats that became vacant after April 24, 2006.

Laxmi Poudel, the administrative chief of TSC, said a board meeting has been called for next week to decide on the date for the announcement of vacancy.

A report prepared by the DoE states that 1,385 teaching posts are vacant in secondary schools and 1,864 in lower secondary schools. The highest number of vacancies (1,072) are in the Central Development Region while the Far-Western Region has the fewest (250).

DoE officials said most of the posts became vacant after hundreds of teachers resigned after Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) started investigating into the authenticity of academic certificates of government teachers.

A report submitted by the DoE to the CIAA last month shows 1,796 teachers resigned between September 2014 and February 2015. A majority of them were primary level teachers (1,330), followed by lower secondary level teachers (274) and secondary level teachers (192).
