Public transport under government scanner
Kathmandu, Sept 14: The government has started monitoring of public transports to keep its decision of enforcing scientific transport fare implemented effectively.
The Department of Transport Management came up with the monitoring intervention when there was non-compliance on part of public transport operators in reducing fare.
Following frequent reduction of petro product prices, the Department on 9 September took a decision to enforce a new transport fare effective from 11 September.
The minimum fare, according to the department-stipulated new standard, was set to be Rs 13. The monitoring has been put in place with growing public complaint on the non-compliance of new transport fare, said Department’s Director Basanta Chaudhary.
The Department has formed a central monitoring committee headed by Department’s Director-General Chandra Man Shrestha with representation from consumers’ organizations and traffic police to bring to book those who do not adbide by the standard public transport fare. RSS
