Efforts on to address Tharu people’s demands: UCPN (Maoist) chairman

Kathmandu, Sept 22: Chairman of the Unified CPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said he is making efforts to address the political demands put forth by the indigenous Tharu community.

Leader Dahal said this in the discussions with the Tharu lawmakers and leaders held at his residence in Lazimpat this morning. He pledged that the problem would be resolved after discussions with the Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and CPN (UML) chairman KP Sharma Oli.

Lawmaker Santa Kumar Tharu, who participated in the discussions, said they urged Chairman Dahal to address their demands before the Prime Minister leaves for New York to attend the UN General Assembly.

On the occasion, leader Dahal assured the Tharu leaders that initiatives would be taken to address the demands put forth by the Tharu Struggle Committee by today evening. Dahal opined that the political issues should be resolved by any means in the context of the promulgation of the new constitution.

“We too are eager to resolve the deadlock provided there is atmosphere conducive for talks. We have arrived at a conclusion that the problem should not linger on,” Tharu said. RSS
