SAARC Foreign Minister’s meeting concludes in US

New York (USA), Oct 1: The informal meeting of Foreign Ministers of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) concluded in New York in the United States on Wednesday.

Declarations of the 18th SAARC Summit held in Kathmandu earlier and decisions taken by 36th SAARC cabinet meeting were reviewed in the meeting that was coincided the 70th General Assembly of the United Nations.

The meeting agreed upon making the SAARC active and effective further to achieve its directed goals for social welfare and health, education, women empowerment, climate change and poverty reduction.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, in capacity of an authorised official from Nepal, which chairs the SAARC, had chaired the meeting.

The meeting also approved the proposal of Nepal to deploy permanent representatives of the SAARC in New York in the US and Geneva in Switzerland each.

Minister Pandey said that discussions were held to make common concept on the issues of common concerns of SAARC member countries and hold meeting of such representatives from time to time.

The meeting also stressed on the need for the SAARC member countries to unite to strengthen the regional organisation and make it more effective and active.
