UML announces chair Oli’s candidacy for new PM



Kathmandu, Oct 4: The standing committee meeting of the CPN (UML) today has decided to announce the name of party chair KP Sharma Oli for the post of new Prime Minister.

The meeting held at Singh Durbar today unanimously and officially announced his name for the post of the next PM. Party secretary Pradip Gyawali told journalists that the party announced the name of chair Oli as the new PM as the President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on October 2 has called upon the political parties to elect new PM within seven days.
The meeting has formed five-member dialogue team to hold discussions with other political parties for the purpose. The team comprises chair Oli, senior leader Jhalnath Khanal, leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Vice-chair duo Bamdev Gautam and Bidya Bhandari.

In response to the question of what would happen if other parties did not accept chair Oli’s name for the new PM, leader Shankar Pokharel said that the gentlemen agreement made with major parties would be implemented as it has been established by the media itself in this regard. Pokharel also said that he does not believe that Nepali Congress would file its candidacy for the post of PM.

Leader Pokharel said that the parliament would deal with any other proposal for the post of PM from other parties.

Similarly, the meeting has assigned the responsibility of forwarding the process for managing the party statute and structures to the party central secretariat.
