Violence and killings are intolerable in democracy: PM Oli

Kathmandu, Dec 29: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has asserted the government would take action as per the law against people involved in violence, killings and vandalism as these acts could not be tolerated in democracy.

Inaugurating an interaction on the democratisation of Nepal’s political parties here today, PM Oli said although democracy was challenged in the past also, the political parties safeguarded its achievements through cooperation and collaboration. The interaction is organised by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.

“We have become successful to bring new constitution even amid the ploy to decimate the achievements of the democratic movements and it is the need of the day to work towards its implementation and abidance,” the Prime Minister said, adding, “But the constitution is not any magic wand that produces whatever one wanted. The people’s aspirations are fulfilled when the country begins its journey towards the prosperity.”

PM Oli said the government and the political parties were aware on the need of its preservation as democracy is a developed system that is conscious and self-regulatory.

He also complained that the media has unnecessarily spurred disputes in many issues.

Stating that the government will work through the fast-track for the relief and rehabilitation of the earthquake survivors, Prime Minister Oli said works to that end would be speeded up even by removing the legal obstacles.
