NC president Koirala calls for cadres’ constant pressure to maintain party unity

Pokhara, Jan 1: Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala has urged the party cadres to constantly pressurize the leadership for maintaining party unity.

Speaking in a meeting with the party cadres here today, he said a culture of blaming each other has flourished in the party and the cadres should constantly pressurize the leadership to maintain party unity since this kind of culture undermines the overall party organization.

“Although the 12th general convention of the party was dubbed the ‘unity convention’, the sentimental unity has not been seen in the party even in the threshold of the 13th convention,” Koirala said, stressing on the need of keeping the party unity intact while maintaining the institutional decorum.

Recalling that the Nepali Congress has struggled for long for bringing democracy to the country, the party president claimed that the country got a new democratic constitution under the Nepali Congress’ leadership as the outcome of that long struggle.

He added that the NC has been playing a leading role to bail the country out whenever it is in crisis and it was determined to resolve the ongoing agitation in the Madhes through talks.

Noting that the NC helped in the peaceful transformation of the violent rebellion on the foundation of national unity and reconciliation propounded by the late leader BP Koirala, he said the party would take the initiation for resolving any type of problem facing the country.

Party central member Mahesh Acharya said the Nepali Congress has played an important role to raising the consciousness of the Nepali people. He added that the Nepali Congress should take the initiation to find a political solution to the Madhes movement.

NC Kaski president and lawmaker Yagya Bahadur Thapa said the party was successful in bringing a democratic constitution by bringing together the political parties with varied political ideologies. Likewise, the party should also play an important role in the implementation of the constitution, he added.
