Earthquake, border blockade add to the problems in education: Minister Pokharel



Butwal, Jan 1: Minister for Education, Girijamani Pokharel, has said that public and private sectors should move ahead to face the challenges seen in the education sector as many challenges have surfaced in this sector due to the earthquake and border blockade.

Stating that concept of public and private education was complementary to each other, Education Minister Pokharel stressed the need of moving ahead towards the path of resolving problems surfaced in the education sector.

Inaugurating the 13th annual general meeting of the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation, Nepal, Rupandehi, and Extensive National Educational Discussion here today, he said that lack of access to education for all people was the major problem of the education sector.

The Education Minister said that lack of quality and research oriented education was also the major problem of this sector.

Similarly, central General Secretary of the PABSON, DK Dhungana, complained that the state has neglected the private education sector and added that ‘Schools as Zones of Peace’ has not been implemented into practice for lack of political commitment.

Former Education Minister Gangalal Tuladhar, Arjun Narsingh KC, UCPN (Maoist) Education Department Chief, Dharmadutta Devkota, Director General of the Education Department, among others, also participated in the discussion.
