Dr Bhattarai insists on addressing Madhes unrest first
Kathmandu, Jan 2:
the matter of fresh delineation of federal units, the main agenda of the ongoing Tarai Madhes agitation should be settled first to calm down the unrest.
Receiving a memorandum submitted by a delegation of Reporters’ Club seeking his views about probable measures for addressing the agitation at his residence at Sanepa today, Dr Bhattarai insisted on sorting out the disputes hovering over the demarcation of federal provinces on the basis of agreements. “It would be better for the sake of all to finalise the demarcation issues first as it hamper efforts for attaining lasting peace,” he said.
Major political parties could reach a political deal regarding the demarcation issues based on the recommendations of the State Restructuring Commission. Durable peace and political stability was the first condition for achieving economic progress and for that state power should be proportionally allocated to all caste and communities.
The former Prime Minister was of the view of developing country’s relations with China and India in a balanced and dynamic way.
