DPM Thapa says reconstruction task is nation building campaign
Kaski, Jan 19: Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa, has said that reconstruction of the quake-damaged infrastructure was the campaign of nation building.
Inaugurating half-yearly progress review seminar of the fiscal year 2015/16 of the Western Development Region organised by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development at Pokhara, today, DPM Thapa said that the country should be made prosperous by launching new building campaign.Also the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Local Development, Thapa said, “The earthquake has damaged cultural and archeological heritages along with the loss of life and property. We should take it as an opportunity by forgetting the pain it inflicted.”
Stating that although the new constitution has some weakness, the country has entered into a new era, the DPM stressed the need of moving ahead keeping the economic development and good governance in priority.
DPM Thapa further said that the nation building campaign would take a momentum if the local bodies fulfill their responsibilities, adding that the Local Development Ministry has responsibility for spending Rs 80 billion of the national budget.
He said, “I urge the District Development Committees, Municipalities and VDCs to contribute in achieving the goal by fulfilling their respective responsibilities.”
The DPM said that preparation for holding the local bodies election would be started soon as per the spirit of new constitution.
Similarly, National Planning Commission Member Dr Sumitra Amatya urged to select the projects on the basis of priority.
Local development officers, chief engineers of the Technician Office and Executive Officers of Municipalities of 16 districts of Western development Regions are participating in the seminar, which will take place till January 22.
