Govt. Committed to hold local bodies’ election soon: DPM Thapa



Biratnagar, Jan 27: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Local Development, Kamal Thapa, has said that the government was committed to hold local bodies’ election soon.

DPN Thapa said so while inaugurating the bi-annual review seminar of Eastern Regional Development Region of the fiscal year 2076/17 BS at Biratnagar today. The seminar was organised by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development.
He said the government and ruling parties have agreed to hold local bodies’ election and discussion with opposition parties was underway in this regard.
Also the Minister for Local Development, DPM Thapa suggested the employees to handover the responsibility to people’s representatives by changing the local bodies into a strong, capable and systematic body.
Stating that the country should be focused towards economic development and prosperity as the country has now entered into a new era, he said, “Qualitative change is necessary on working style of political and administrative sides to face challenges.”
Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry of Local Development, Madhav Regmi, such seminar would help evaluate the works carried out during six months of the current fiscal in the region as well as help know about the difficulties and weaknesses seen in course of carrying out works.
Regional Administrator, Mahendra Man Gurung, directed the employees not to control corruption and not to make any dillydallying in course of carrying out works.
On the occasion, Assistant Minister for Local Development, Biraj Raj Bista, also expressed his view.
Office-bearers of the local bodies of the eastern region would inform the seminar about the work progress carried out by their respective districts in six months.
