KC elected the President of NBA

Kathmandu, April 08: Sher Bahadur KC, a contestant from the democratic panel, was elected the President of Nepal Bar Association (NBA), defeating Bijay Kanta Mainali from the progressive panel.

KC had led the panel of advocates who are believed to be loyal to Nepal Congress, the largest party in the Parliament, while Mainali was backed by lawyers loyal to CPN-UML and UCPN-Maoist among other parties.

Khamma Bahadur Khati was elected the General Secretary from KC panel. Of total 25 members elected, 19 belong to the new President’s panel.

The election for the 24th executive committee of Nepali lawyers’ umbrella body was held on last Saturday. The vote count had begun on Tuesday. A total of 71 candidates had competed for the 25-member new NBA executive committee.
