Minister Bohara not to allow sending women for foreign jobs



Kathmandu, April 19: Minister for Labour and Employment Deepak Bohara has ruled out the possibility of sending women for foreign jobs in the present situation.

Addressing an interaction programme on the guidelines relating to sending domestic help abroad, Minister Bohara said he would not allow sending women workers for foreign employment until their security was guaranteed.

“Every day, Nepali women being stranded in foreign land, subjected to physical and mental abuses, and unpaid for months, make the news headlines. So, now onwards women would not be allowed to go for foreign employment until clear criteria was made regarding their safety, remuneration and other facilities in the destination country,” he underscored.

On the occasion, Secretary at the Labour Ministry, Bishnu Lamsal, argued the foreign employment was being a means of human smuggling, demanding immediate action to address such problem.

Metropolitan Crime Division Chief Senior Superintendent of Police Sarbendra Khanal stressed the Nepali women workers in troubles should be rescued first, and other initiatives are to follow.

Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies’ Secretary General Rohan Gurung was of the view of signing a labuor agreement with the destination country before sending women there. RSS
