UCPN (Maoist) decides to lead national unity govt



Kathmandu, May 4: UCPN (Maoist) joining the incumbent government has decided to form a national unity government under its leadership.

A standing committee meeting of the Maoist held at the residence of Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Lazimpat in the Capital today also pointed out the need for national unity government to speed up post-quake reconstruction and complete the remaining tasks of the peace process.

The statement issued by Maoist chief Dahal after the meeting said that his party supported the CPN-UML-led government, stressing on national consensus and keeping post-quake reconstruction and implementation of the constitution in the centre.

Besides, the Maoist also stressed the need for resolving political problems through dialogue and safeguarding national integrity and dignity and completing remaining tasks of the peace process, the statement added.

“Our party (UCPN (Maoist)) has constantly drawn attention of the government to sticking to such issues. However, the government fails to deliver expected results towards that end,” the statement said.

The statement also said that although the main opposition Nepali Congress has proposed to form national unity government under its leadership, the Maoist has asked the UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal (Loktantrik) among other political parties to join the process to form national unity government under its leadership.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, the meeting of ruling UML and UCPN (Maoist) failed to yield any results on the matter. RSS
