President Bhandari presents govt. policy and programmes
Kathmandu, May 8: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has begun recitation and subsequent presentation of the government’s policy and programme for the next fiscal year at the Legislature-Parliament.
This is the first policy and programme of the government since the promulgation of the new constitution of Nepal last September. The President had arrived at the Parliament building in New Baneswar at 4:05 pm. The President arrived to the parliament premises by a traditional horse-drawn carriage that she embarked from Babar Mahal.
Upon arrival at the parliament premises, the President was welcomed by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker Onsari Gharti, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Agni Prasad Kharel and Parliament General Secretary Manohar Prasad Bhattarai, among others.
This is the first time that President Bhandari is presenting the government’s policy and programmes since she was elected to the post of the Head of State on October 20, 2015. As per the constitutional provision, the President presents the government’s policy and programmes to the House before the announcement of the budget for the new fiscal year. Prime Minister Oli presented a copy of the government’s policy and programme to the President for recitation and presentation before the House.
The parliament building (International Convention Center), New Baneswhor has been beautifully decorated for the special occasion. Upon her arrival at the parliament building, a contingent of Nepal Army presented a guard of honour. Security in and around the parliament building has been tightened.
Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Acting Chief Justice Sushila Karki, Ministers, the Chief Secretary, chiefs of constitutional bodies and representatives of diplomatic missions have also arrived to grace the occasion. RSS
