Workshop on climate change friendly water management



Itahari, Aug 4: A preliminary workshop titled ‘Challenges and opportunities of sustainable water management’ concluded in Dharan on Wednesday.

The workshop was organized to mitigate risks stemming from climate change with growing urbanization in the cities like Dharan.

The South Asia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS) organized the workshop in collaboration with researchers of Nepal, India and Australia with funding support from Canada’s International Development and Research Centre (IDRC).

SIAS Executive Director Ngamindra Dahal shared that a study was initiated to explore long-term solution to several problems resulted in from urbanization and climate change and help concerned agencies and stakeholders in framing and executing evidence-based policy.

He further informed that the study will be undertaken in Dharan and Dhulikhel in coming three years.

At the event, Executive Officer of Dharan Sub-metropolis Tikadutta Rai and Coordinator of Dharan Drinking Water Project Monitoring Committee and Nepali Congress district Secretary Sujendra Tamang, among others shed light on the issue.
