NSU’s leadership will be selected through election: Dr Mahat

Kathmandu, Aug 14: Nepal Student Union (NSU) Directive Committee Chairman Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has stated that the new leadership of the Union will be selected through the election.

Organizing a press conference in the Reporter’s Club in Kathmandu on Sunday, Dr Mahat shared that the new leadership would be elected on Tuesday after the representatives for the general convention are confirmed.
The 11th Convention of the Union, sister wing of the Nepali Congress (NC), had started on August 7.

Dr Mahat further shared that the number of representatives has increased in the Convention since representatives from some disputed campuses in the Kathmandu Valley and other districts have been added in the convention.

He also dismissed the claim that there were no bogus voters in the Convention. Mahat was also quick to add that he had not added any representative to the convention from his side. Moreover, Mahat said that it was unimaginable to boycott the Convention taking place after so long.

Tuesday’s election is as a part of the decision made by the Nepali Congress central committee members elected through the NC’s 13th general convention.

Also, speaking at the programme, NSU former President and Directive Committee member Pradip Poudel argued that if the NSU’s general convention was not taking place, the Union would lose its glory. He added, “This convention should not be put off on any pretext.”

As per the NSU Central Election Committee, the candidates are to register their candidacy on Monday from 8:00 am to noon. The final list of the candidates would be published by 6:00 pm the same day.

Central members of the Nepali Congress Mr. Chandra Bhandari, N.P. Saud, Bishow Prakash Sharma, Kishor Singh Rathor were also present in the press conference.
