China wants to work with Nepal under framework of Belt and Road Initiative: Ambassador Yu

Kathmandu, Nov 22: China’s Ambassador to Nepal, Yu Hong, has said China would like to work together with Nepal to synergize the development strategies, strengthen cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, and carry China-Nepal friendly cooperation to a new height.

Speaking in a reception marking her assumption of office here Tuesday, she said, “China and Nepal are friendly neighbours linked by mountains and rivers, and share a long history of close exchanges.”

Ambassador Yu further stated that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1955, China and Nepal have always treated each other equally, supported each other and lived in harmony. “The bilateral relations have maintained a sound momentum of healthy and stable development. China supports Nepal’s endeavour to safeguard national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” she added.

Expressing appreciation to Nepal’s adherence to One-China policy and the policy of not allowing any anti-China activities by any force in any form in Nepal, the Chinese ambassador noted that the bilateral relations have stepped into a new stage of rapid development since the establishment of China-Nepal Comprehensive Partnership of Cooperation Featuring Ever-Lasting Friendship in 2009.

She maintained that regardless of the changing of international landscape, China-Nepal relations have maintained sound and steady development.

Referring to the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal during the BRICS Summit in Goa of India, Ambassador Yu said the two leaders had reached important consensus on further pushing forward the bilateral relations, and have worked out a comprehensive plan for the development of the bilateral relations in the future. She also said that China would continue the mutually-beneficial cooperation with Nepal.

Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun was present on the occasion. Deputy Prime Minister, ministers, heads of constitutional bodies, heads of the diplomatic missions, high officials of the Government of Nepal, industrialists and senior journalists also attended the reception. RSS
