Manchester City stance on Sergio Aguero revealed
LONDON, Feb 6: Manchester City have slammed the door shut on Sergio Aguero leaving the club this summer.
Blues fans were worried by the Argentina ace’s comments following his demotion to the subs’ bench for a second successive match, Sunday’s 2-1 win over Swansea.
Aguero said he wants to stay after signing a new deal until 2020, and it was down to the club whether they wanted him or not.
And the response from highly-placed club sources who spoke to MEN Sport was a resounding positive.
The club was quick to react to Aguero’s words, backing up Pep Guardiola’s assertion that he remains “one of the most important players at the club”.
One City source said: “There is no vagueness about our position. We want Sergio to stay.
“Pep has repeatedly said he is an important player for us, and if Sergio is saying it is down to the club, well the club really wants him to stay.
“No-one here wants him to leave, and Pep has been explicit about that.”
The source also pointed to the fact that Aguero only penned a new contract extension earlier this year, committing his future at the club until 2020.
Aguero saw his replacement in the team Gabriel Jesus score both goals in the victory over the Swans and then told reporters: “Sometimes this happens. When you’re on the bench you have to wait for your opportunity.AGENCIES
