Darshan Rauniyar says, he will internationalize Saptari tragedy and advocate for justice to victims
KATHMANDU, March 20: Darshan Rauniyar, a politician and a Democratic candidate for District 1 of the United States House of Representatives of 2012 Election, feels Nepal lacks visionary leaders, which has pushed Nepal further backward.
Rauniyar has been visiting Nepal on regular basis for the last three years. He has been living in the United States for 28 years.
“Every year when I come to Nepal, I see its condition getting further worse in all the aspects of development. I blame political instability and irresponsible political leaders for such backwardness. In fact, Nepal lacks visionary leaders who can bring halt to all these ongoing uncertainty and lead the country into a new direction of peace and prosperity,” he said during a press meet at the Reporters’ Club Nepal today.
“America has taught me people oriented politics. I find huge difference between the leaders of Nepal and leaders of America and other countries who have progressed very much.”
JUSTICE TO SAPTARI TRAGEDY
Rauniyar who recently visited Rajbiraj of Saptari and interacted with the families of victims of Saptari incident and the locals there, said, the Saptari incident was indeed tragic.
Five were killed and dozens injured when police open fired in Rajbiraj of Saptari after United Democratic Madhesi Front cadres tried to disrupt the CPN-UML’s Mechi-Mahakali Campaign on March 10.
He condemned the police shooting as inhuman and violation of Human Rights and demanded the government to take the full responsibility of the injured and family of the victims of the Saptari incident.
He added, “I have talked directly to the victims’ family. I have found their condition too miserable. It is my suggestion that the Nepal’s political leaders visit those families in person and realize their pain.”
“The police attacked the locals brutally by breaking into the house and by chasing them. The locals who were ill-treated were mostly ordinary people and included elders as well. It is condemnable,” he added.
Stating that the government has not been able to provide justice to the victims of Saptari tragedy yet, Rauniyar furthered, “I am preparing to make a documentary over the Saptari tragedy. I will internationalize it taking it to the Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International and advocate for the justice to the injured and families of dead.”
“I do not support Madesi leaders. They are selfish and use people as their weapon to fulfill their interest. I say they are not even leaders,” Rauniyar replied to a media person’s question if he was supporting Madhesi-based leaders.
