March 29: Philippines thumped Nepal 4-1 in their Group F match of the AFC Asian Cup third round qualifiers played at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila on Tuesday.

The result puts the Philippines on three points after one game, with Yemen and Tajikistan still to play.

Nepal was reduced to 10-men after Bikram Lama was sent off for a hand ball inside the penalty box early in the game.

The penalty kick was saved brilliantly by goak keeper Kiran Chemjong but Nepal gave away another penalty in the 21the minute after Rabin Shrestha brought down Mike Ott in the danger zone and this time the Azkals’ captain Phil made no mistake to score the opener. Phil scored two minutes later to double the lead.

And Iian Ramsay’s 28th minute finish from the penalty area gave Philippines side lead by three goals.

Nepal showed fight back spirit with 45th minute goal from substitute Bishal Rai. But 72nd minute goal from home side Javier Patino extended the socre to 4-1.

Nepal will face Yemen in the first home match of the qualifiers on June 13 at the Halchowk Stadium in Kathmandu.
