24 vying for the post of Mayor and 12 for deputy Mayor of Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, May 2: A total of 24 people have filed their candidacy for the post of Mayor and 12 for the post of deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

The candidacy was filed on Tuesday for the local-level elections scheduled to be held on May 14. Accordingly those contesting for the post of Mayor include Raju Raj Joshi from NC, Bidhya Sundar Shakya from CPN-UML, Sarbottam Das Dangol of CPN (MC), Shiva Hari Rijal from Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (democratic), Pabitra Bajracharya from Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Dr Nirmal Kumar Thapa from Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal and Kul Narayan Dangol of NWPP and Bachpan Raj Shrestha of CPN (United).

Likewise, independent candidates vying for the post include Kishore Thapa, Binod Kumar Chettri, Ranju Neupane, Surendra Prasad Dhakal, Amot Maharjan, Laxmi Prasad Bhandari, Netra Bahadur Limnu, Pursuttam Dangal, Bharat Bahadur Bisural, Gorki Prasad Shrestha, Gyanu Maya Tamang, Nawaraj Karki, Dinesh Shahi, Daba Bahadur Gurbuja Punmagar and Anil Man Shrestha.

In the post of deputy Mayor, Hari Prabha Khadgi of Nepali Congress, Sushila Poudel of CPN-MC, Rajaram Shrestha of RPP, Laxmi Rai of MJF-D, Sabita Aryal of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha Kriti Sapkota KC have filed their candidacy. The independent candidates include Janisha Bhattarai, Nirupama Yadav, Punam Dangol, Sabitri Kharel and Radhika Maharjan.

Similarly, more than one thousand persons have registered their candidacy for the post of ward chairman and members of Kathmandu, according to Chief Returning Office Pursottam Prasad Dhakal. RSS
