Bhaktapur records the highest turnout in Sunday poll

BHAKTAPUR, May 15: Bhaktapur, the smallest district, witnessed the maximum turnout– 83 percent– in the first-round of local-level elections held in 34 districts of Province No 3, 4 and 6 on Sunday.

The elections were held in 281 polling stations as against 283 stations fixed by the Election Commission. Candidates were elected unopposed in two of them.

Bhaktapur recorded the 83 per cent voter turnout which is the highest among the 34 districts, the District Election Office, Bhaktapur said.

According to the EC’s preliminary estimate, there was a 71 percent turnout on average in the Sunday’s elections.

As stated by Bhaktapur District Election Officer Umesh Rai, a total of 131 thousand 958 votes were cast in four municipalities in the district while the number of total voters was 161 thousand 529. RSS
