Reports on extending parliament’s term is hoax: Nidhi
KATHMANDU, July 23: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Bimalendra Nidhi has denied the reports on political discussions that the government is preparing to extend the current term of the parliament for one more year.
“The reports that have surfaced on the media about extending the parliament’s term is a hoax,” Nidhi told Reporters’ Club Nepal.
“The remaining two sets of elections- provincial and parliamentary-will be conducted within the deadline set by the constitution,” he added, “the ruling parties do not have any intention to lengthen the parliament’s tenure.”
He further added that the two elections will be held as per the report prepared by the Constituency Delineation Commission formed. The commission was formed on July 20 with the consent of reducing the existing 240 electoral constituencies to 165 and delineating 330 constituencies for the provincial elections.
