KATHMANDU, July 31: The CPN-UML has slammed the Supreme Courts’ verdict to conduct re-election in Bharatpur Metropolitan City Ward No 19 as regretful.

The standing committee meeting of the party, on Monday, endorsed a special resolution, arguing that court decision disrespected people’s mandate and it would establish as a wrong precedent. The meeting also concluded the SC’s decision as against the general principles of the law and values of the democracy.

The meeting argued that the cadres of CPN (Maoist Centre) had supposedly torn up 90 ballot papers during vote counting of Ward-19 but the Election Commission unfortunately decided to hold re-election in the ward.

The party urged the voters in the Ward to vote for UML’s candidate Devi Gyawali.

The meeting has also stressed the irrelevance of constitution amendment before the completion of three-tier of elections.

The meeting also finalized the names of party candidates to contest the post of chiefs and deputy chiefs in district development coordination committees in various districts.
