KATHMANDU, Sept 7: Leaders of various political parties have claimed their victory in Province 2 election scheduled for September 18.

Speaking during an interaction program themed ‘Province 2 election: Parties’ participation’ program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal Janakpur chapter on Thursday, leaders from different political parties claimed their respective parties’ victory in local polls.

The ruling party Nepali Congress leader and Agriculture Development Minister Ram Krishna Yadav said that his party would claim first position in the Province 2 election. He said, “Nepali Congress has always fought for the rights of Madhesi people. No other parties have contributed more than NC in developing Terai-Madhes. People here will vote us.”

“The upcoming Province 2 election important for the development of Madhes and the whole nation,” he said adding, “NC is not like CPN-UML. We will prove our worth by acting rather than talking. NC will become the first party in this election.”

The ruling party CPN (Maoist Center) leader Jalku Yadav, speaking on the occasion, termed the opposition UML as an anti-Madhes party. He added, “UML has never wanted goodwill of Madhesi people. They don’t want that Madhesi people enjoy their rights. They have stood against the constitution amendment. Why vote UML?”

“UML must be wiped out from Terai-Madhes. People here are familiar about the true intention of UML,” he further added.

Yadav also claimed that only MC carried the agenda of Madhes and fought for the rights of Madhesi people.

Chief Whip of Nepal Loktantrik Forum Yogendra Chaudary argued that people of Madhes will not vote UML since it does not want constitution amendment. He added, “UML voted against the amendment proposal, now people will vote against UML.”

Chaudhary backed party Chair and Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Ghhachadar stating that the latter had a very important role in bringing all the political parties together during constitution promulgation. He added that Gachhadar had played a major role in bringing Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and MC Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in favor of the amendment proposal.

Stating that Loktantrik had important role in development and prosperity of Madhes, he added, “People will vote us, I am certain that we will win this election.”

Rastriya Janata Party Nepal leader Raman Pandey accused all top three parties of being anti-Madhes. “These top three parties promulgated the constitution of Nepal together. All three are to be blamed.”

“People are not willing to vote these big parties. I believe Madhesi people will not vote the parties who betrayed them,” he added.

Also, RJPN leader Parmeshwor Shah also claimed his party’s victory in Province 2. He also criticized Gachhadar of having double standard character and added, “No one will vote his party because he has lied to people a lot.”

Likewise, leader of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal Dr Ram Swartha Yadav backed party Chair Upendra Yadav. He said, “Upendra Yadav has always fought for Madhes people. People will vote our party.”

Also speaking on the occasion, Reporters’ Club Nepal’s central president and senior journalist Rishi Dhamala highlighted the importance of election for constitution implementation and urged all the people to peacefully participate in the polls. He further stated that he had come to Terai-Madhes carrying election campaign to help in peaceful conduction of elections. He also appealed the political leaders to abide by the election code of conduct.
