Nepali Congress steps up efforts to form broad democratic alliance

KATHMANDU, Oct 4: The Nepali Congress (NC) has intensified efforts to form a broad democratic alliance.

The NC’s move follows the announcement of the formation of an alliance among the main leftist forces–main opposition CPN-UML, ruling CPN (Maoist Centre) and Naya Shakti Nepal–on Tuesday.

Following the union, the NC has been under pressure to make a coalition with democratic forces especially ahead of the House of Representatives and State Assemblies elections slated for late this year.

Talks were underway in the meeting of the NC central working execution committee at Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s official residence in Baluwatar, said NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi. The meeting has been attended by PM and NC President Dueba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, and members of the committee.

As part of the NC’s effort to forge an alliance with democratic forces, a meeting will be held later on Wednesday at PM Deuba’s official residence in Baluwatar where talks would be held to this effect with Rastriya Janata Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic), Federal Socialist Forum and Democratic Forum Nepal, informed Nidhi. RSS
