KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has claimed the NC victory in the upcoming elections was a must for the stability of democracy and economic progress.

Speaking at a ceremony organized to unveil the Nepali Congress manifesto for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies scheduled for two rounds on November 26 and December 7, the NC president said the democracy was restored in the country under the NC leadership. On the occasion, he unveiled the party’s election manifesto.

Under the party’s leadership, big but historic achievements had been possible in the country since 1950 and its victory in the nearing elections was essential to further ‘develop’ the country, he asserted.

“Personal freedom and human rights will be curtailed and an atmosphere of fear and terror will be hovering over if there is the Communist rule,” he said, adding that democracy was a must to make the people rulers and the only the Nepali Congress is capable of safeguarding democracy and uniting the mountain, hill and the Madesh together.

According to him, the NC victory in the elections is essential to keep the national unity intact and win the trust from the national and international communities.

Also speaking on the occasion, NC senior leader Ramchandra Poudel said the party, through its election manifesto, had expressed commitment towards attaining economic prosperity in the country in the aftermath of management of political transition through the promulgation of the constitution.

Those political parties who were together with the NC while drafting and promulgating the constitution were now heading towards the totalitarianism, he complained, adding that the party would never allow such attempts to become successful.

Likewise, party general secretary Dr Shashank Koirala viewed that it was really a challenge for the party to see the communist parties coming together, urging the entire party leaders and cadres to go in the elections unitedly to face such challenge successfully.

Party leader and manifesto preparation committee coordinator Mahesh Acharya insisted on the need of the party’s win in the upcoming elections to what he claimed get political stability, stringer democracy and prosperous Nepal. RSS
