CIAA opens property probe over 200 govt officials

KATHMANDU, Nov 6: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has opened probe over 200 retired and current government officials to investigate into the reports of amassing property by illegal means.

According to the Commission, top government officials from Security organs, Irrigation, Drinking Water, Finance, Physical Infrastructure and Transportation Ministries are being probed on the basis of the report submitted by the intelligence agency under CIAA.

The property probe has been launched over 40 engineers, 20 top security officials, five secretaries, 20 doctors and chiefs of key government corporations, confirmed CIAA sources.

Prior to this, the commission had listed around 1500 officials as a start. They were later shortlisted to 500, and of them, 200 government officials are being probed in the initial step.

The Commission, on Sunday, has already summoned Nepal Police Inspector General Upendra Kanta Aryal, former Secretary Gajendra Kumar Thakur, former Chief Secretary Rajendra Kishor Kshetri, former Secretary Bishwo Prakash Pandit and Secretary Arjun Karki for the statements.
